The village of Lifta is situated on the north-western edge of Jerusalem.
Lifta’s lands cover more than 8,700 dunums.
Prior to its occupation nearly 3,000 Palestinians lived in the village.
Various crops were traditionally grown in Lifta, including olives, cereal and cacti, which were traded in Jerusalem’s markets.
In late 1947, the Zionist ‘Stern Gang’ attacked one of the coffee shops in the village, killing 6 villagers and wounding another 7.
Zionist attacks continued until February 1948 by which time the western side of the village had been entirely depopulated.
